Huyton Towntrail - Part 5

On the right at the same traffic lights is the junction with Huyton Hey Road, here you will find Huyton Hey Manor, a former possession of the Molyneux-Seel family which is now a residential home. Walking straight on through the traffic lights, onto St. John's Road, the next road on the right side is St. Mary's Road, turning here, you immediately see the modern Roman Catholic St. Agnes Church. This was built in 1965 to replace the smaller St. Agnes Chapel building of the previous century. Along St. Mary's Road, are many fine 19th Century villas of varying styles. The continuation of this road leads into 'The Orchard', where some large detached properties set in their own grounds survive. Many of these properties which date from the mid-19th Century, were originally occupied by wealthy merchants but some later became part of Liverpool College for Girls, later known simply as Huyton College. The College which opened in 1894, closed almost one hundred years later. The main college building which is adjacent to Huyton Station, is now in use as a residential home.
