St Chad's Church, Kirkby. It did not become a parish church until 1872, being anciently a chapel of ease in the large parish of Walton. It is dedictaed to Ceadda (Chad) a seventh century saint who was successively Bishop of Northumbria and Mercia. His most endearing miracle was to absent-mindedly hang his cloak upon a sunbeam.
