Shelters, Salisbury Street, Prescot

Ref. No.: PHS7
Date of Photo: 1941.

The first street shelters proved to be not strong enough to withstand the blast of German bombs and had to be strengthened very quickly.

The photograph shows members of the 'Foster' team working in the Moss area, while the 'Taylor' and 'Lucas' teams were hard at work in other parts of the town. The 'teams' referred to were the building gangs of local building contractors. The photograph was taken on 20th October 1941 by K.G. Hunt. The copyright is with the Prescot Historic Society.
